Introduction
In this lab, we will explore how to create a Modal component in React that can be controlled through events. The Modal component will have a close button, and the keyboard event listener will be used to close the modal when the Esc key is pressed. By the end of this lab, you will have a good understanding of how to create a reusable Modal component that can be easily integrated into any React project.
Modal Dialog
index.htmlandscript.jshave already been provided in the VM. In general, you only need to add code toscript.jsandstyle.css.
This code renders a Modal component that can be controlled through events. To use the component, you can import Modal once and then display it by passing a boolean value to the isVisible attribute.
The Modal component has the following features:
- It defines a
keydownHandlerfunction that handles all keyboard events and callsonClosewhen theEsckey is pressed. - It uses the
useEffect()hook to add or remove thekeydownevent listener to theDocument, callingkeydownHandlerfor every event. - It adds a styled
<span>element that acts as a close button, callingonClosewhen clicked. - It uses the
isVisibleprop passed down from the parent to determine if the modal should be displayed or not. - It includes a CSS file that styles the Modal component.
