On a Mac, Alt codes are not used in the same way as on Windows. Instead, you can use the following methods to type special characters:

  1. Option Key: Many special characters can be typed using the Option key. For example:

    • Copyright symbol (©): Option + G
    • Registered trademark symbol (®): Option + R
    • Tilde (˜): Option + N, then press the spacebar.
  2. Emoji & Symbols Viewer:

    • Press Control + Command + Space to open the Emoji & Symbols viewer.
    • You can search for the symbol you need and insert it directly.
  3. Character Viewer:

    • Go to System Preferences > Keyboard.
    • Check the box for "Show keyboard and emoji viewers in menu bar."
    • Click the input menu in the menu bar and select "Show Emoji & Symbols" to access a wider range of characters.

If you need help with a specific symbol, let me know!
