0212

To install a guest operating system (OS) in VirtualBox, follow these steps:

1. Download the Guest OS ISO

First, download the ISO file of the guest operating system you want to install (e.g., Ubuntu, Windows, etc.).

2. Create a New Virtual Machine

  1. Open VirtualBox.
  2. Click on the "New" button to create a new virtual machine.
  3. Enter a name for your VM, select the type (e.g., Linux, Windows), and choose the version.
  4. Click "Next".

3. Allocate Memory

  1. Choose the amount of RAM to allocate to the VM. It's recommended to allocate at least 2 GB for most modern OSes.
  2. Click "Next".

4. Create a Virtual Hard Disk

  1. Select "Create a virtual hard disk now" and click "Create".
  2. Choose the hard disk file type (VDI is recommended) and click "Next".
  3. Choose whether you want a dynamically allocated or fixed-size disk. Click "Next".
  4. Set the size of the virtual hard disk and click "Create".

5. Configure the VM Settings

  1. Select your newly created VM and click on "Settings".
  2. Go to the "Storage" section.
  3. Under the "Controller: IDE", click on the empty disk icon.
  4. On the right side, click the disk icon next to "Optical Drive" and select "Choose a disk file...".
  5. Browse to the location of the downloaded ISO file and select it.

6. Start the Virtual Machine

  1. Click "OK" to close the settings.
  2. Select your VM and click on "Start".
  3. The VM will boot from the ISO file, and you can follow the installation instructions for the guest OS.

7. Complete the Installation

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the guest operating system. Once installed, you can remove the ISO from the virtual drive in the VM settings if you no longer need it.

That's it! You now have a guest OS installed in VirtualBox.
