RHCSA Practice Exam 01

A hands-on RHCSA practice exam with 16 independent RHEL administration challenges covering essential tools, software and running systems, storage, networking, users, groups, and security.

LinuxRed Hat Enterprise LinuxRHCSA Training

Introduction

RHCSA Practice Exam 01 is a hands-on assessment of core RHEL system administration. Its 16 independent tasks cover shell tools and scripting, software and running systems, local storage and filesystems, networking and maintenance, and users, groups, and security. The recommended duration is 180 minutes, with a 100-point integrated model and a simulated LabEx passing threshold of 70 points.

Each task opens in a fresh RHEL 10 VM and provides goals and acceptance criteria rather than a guided solution. You must inspect the current state, make the requested operational change, and verify live behavior, persistence, evidence files, permissions, or security controls as appropriate.

What You Will Learn

  • Filter and archive evidence, repair permissions and links, and write a robust Bash user-audit script
  • Configure local DNF and Flatpak sources, restore a failed systemd service, preserve journals, and control a noisy process
  • Create a persistent systemd maintenance timer and manage the default boot target
  • Partition and mount XFS storage, extend LVM and its filesystem, configure swap, and create an autofs NFS mount
  • Set host identity, local name resolution, firewalld access, time synchronization, and checksum-verified SSH transfer
  • Create accounts with group and aging policy and delegate precisely limited sudo commands
  • Keep SELinux enforcing while restoring a custom Apache root, and secure SSH keys, setgid collaboration, and default file modes

Who This Course Is For

This course is for junior RHEL administrators, Linux support and operations professionals, and RHCSA candidates who want to test practical administration without step-by-step assistance. It is most useful after completing guided study across the main RHCSA skill areas.

Prerequisites: Comfortable use of the Linux shell, files and permissions, Bash basics, users and groups, packages, systemd, networking, storage, SSH, and sudo. Familiarity with LVM, XFS, firewalld, autofs, and SELinux is recommended.

Learning environment: Sixteen isolated browser-accessible RHEL 10 VMs. Required repositories, RPM and Flatpak content, services, disks, LVM capacity, NFS exports, SSH accounts and keys, logs, and web assets are staged locally; files and configuration do not carry between tasks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official RHCSA exam?

No. It is an independent LabEx practice resource. The 180-minute recommendation, 100-point model, and 70-point threshold are simulated settings and do not produce an official Red Hat certification result.

Are the tasks guided tutorials?

No. Each task provides a requested outcome and measurable acceptance criteria. Automated checks evaluate the final VM state, so you must select commands and verify your work independently.

Do the NFS, SSH, and software-source tasks require external servers?

No. NFS exports, transfer accounts, keys, RPM repositories, and Flatpak content are prepared inside the relevant training VM. The tasks exercise real local administration without network accounts or subscriptions.

Will storage or SELinux tasks weaken the rest of the environment?

Storage work uses dedicated training disks and requires persistent UUID-based configuration while preserving existing data. The SELinux task must leave enforcement enabled and repair labels and the required boolean rather than disabling protection.
