Automating a Daily Sales Export is a practical project for DevOps beginners who can enter terminal commands. Help DAYMARK café deliver a correct downloadable sales report, keep the last complete file through failure, and publish new results when the schedule runs again.
Two Guided Labs separate safe publication from scheduled execution. One independent Challenge transfers the method to stockroom valuation with a different account, path and input. Every unit starts in its own prepared environment.
What You Will Learn
- Read source rows and compare combined quantities and whole-cent totals with a real CSV download.
- Complete a small Bash wrapper that writes a temporary file, propagates failure and atomically replaces the destination only after success.
- Configure a matching systemd service and timer with deliberate user, working directory and absolute paths.
- Read actual triggers, journal entries and execution identity; preserve a report during failure and update it on a later real run.
Who This Course Is For
For Linux and DevOps learners with basic terminal familiarity. No prior systemd or scripting experience is needed; the relevant shell syntax is explained before use. You edit a short wrapper and unit files, while the calculation program and website are provided.
The browser environment includes Workstation and the Daymark business website. No local installation or external account is needed. English and eight document translations are available; website labels, commands and output remain English.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a real scheduler? Yes. A real systemd timer starts finite jobs on a Linux instance. The short 5/20-second interval is a rehearsal, not an actual daily production schedule. Calendar scheduling is explained briefly; reboot recovery and missed-day accounting are outside scope.
Must I build the reporting application? No. The CSV calculator is supplied. You work on publication and execution configuration, then use the real records and downloads to judge results.
What does the Challenge change? It uses stock quantities and costs, another reporting user and new paths. The tools and program interface are the same as in the Guided Labs. A complete separate solution is available.
