Rebuilding a Preview Site from Terraform is a practical project for learners who already understand Docker containers and published ports. Recover TIDE's missing open-studios preview from a declaration while keeping the live site, reference preview and shared networks intact.
One Guided Lab introduces Terraform's configuration and ownership model through a precise recovery. One independent Challenge transfers the workflow to another venue, changing the image, port, network and management-scope decisions. Each unit starts with its own prepared environment.
What You Will Learn
- Read HCL blocks and distinguish Terraform core from its Docker provider.
- Separate managed resources from data lookups of existing shared infrastructure.
- Compare configuration, remembered state and actual Docker objects.
- Review a saved plan, restore only a missing preview and reach a no-change plan.
- Check complete visitor pages and downloads while preserving neighboring container and network identities.
Who This Course Is For
DevOps learners who have used Docker and want to apply infrastructure as code to a small operational task.
Prerequisites: Basic terminal use and familiarity with Docker images, containers and published ports. Prior Terraform knowledge is not required.
Learning environment: A browser-based Linux instance supplies Terraform 1.14.3, the community Docker provider 3.0.2, a local plugin mirror and complete website images. You do not install tools, create cloud accounts or write application code. Website labels and command output remain English; the documents are available in eight additional languages.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this differ from creating a first Docker container with Terraform?
The central task is deciding what this root owns, restoring a missing business preview and retaining both a managed reference and infrastructure owned elsewhere. The Challenge changes those boundaries rather than repeating an installation exercise.
Is this a public-cloud or production recovery course?
No. It manages local Docker on one training instance. It does not restore lost user data, provide high availability or continuously heal containers. You run the plan/apply workflow when recovery is needed.
Do I need to build the website?
No. TIDE's pages, illustration, directions and downloadable studio programme are supplied. You make their infrastructure declaration correct and verify the full visitor journey.
