Introduction

RHCE in Enterprise Linux Practice Exam 01 is an advanced, hands-on assessment of RHEL troubleshooting. Its 14 independent incidents span evidence collection, logging, boot configuration, filesystems, LVM, encrypted iSCSI storage, packages, networking, applications, SELinux, containers, PAM, crash data, and SystemTap. The recommended duration is 240 minutes, with a 100-point integrated model and a simulated LabEx passing threshold of 70 points.

Each incident starts in a fresh RHEL 10 VM with a prepared failure state. You must reproduce symptoms, preserve relevant before-state evidence, identify the narrow failure boundary, apply a safe repair or collect the requested investigation data, and prove the final state without a guided solution.

What You Will Learn

  • Collect focused service, journal, process, and host evidence and package a reproducible support handoff
  • Restore persistent journald storage and a local rsyslog forwarding path
  • Repair systemd boot dependencies and persistent kernel or default-target drift without rebooting
  • Recover ext4 images, activate incomplete LVM state, and unlock and mount prepared LUKS-on-iSCSI storage
  • Resolve DNF repository and RPM integrity problems while restoring packaged files
  • Diagnose binding, firewalld, routing, and packet-flow failures and capture useful network evidence
  • Repair application dependencies, SELinux-labeled Podman volumes, PAM access policy, and collect bounded coredump and SystemTap data

Who This Course Is For

This course is for experienced RHEL administrators, Linux support engineers, and troubleshooting-focused certification candidates who want to test disciplined incident diagnosis under time pressure. It is not an introductory system administration course.

Prerequisites: Strong RHEL administration skills, including systemd, journald, DNF/RPM, NetworkManager, firewalld, filesystems, LVM, LUKS, iSCSI, SELinux, Podman, PAM, and shell-based evidence collection. RHCSA-level fundamentals plus substantial troubleshooting practice are recommended.

Learning environment: Fourteen isolated browser-accessible RHEL 10 VMs with prepared local failure states. Services, repositories, disk and filesystem images, iSCSI targets, encrypted volumes, network segments, containers, users, logs, coredump metadata, and SystemTap probes are staged inside the relevant VM; no production system or external storage network is involved.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this an official RHCE exam?

No. It is an independent LabEx troubleshooting practice resource. The 240-minute recommendation, 100-point model, and 70-point threshold are simulated and do not produce an official Red Hat certification result.

Are these guided repair labs?

No. You receive an incident brief and measurable acceptance criteria. You decide which evidence to inspect, what the root cause is, and how to repair or document it while preserving required controls.

Will boot and storage incidents risk making the training VM unusable?

The tasks use narrow prepared faults and local training assets. Boot configuration is verified without rebooting, and storage work uses staged images, logical volumes, and a local iSCSI target with explicit recovery material.

Does the crash investigation require causing a kernel crash?

No. You inspect a deliberately failed service, query prepared coredump metadata, run a minimal bounded SystemTap smoke probe, and assemble a support archive. The task does not ask you to crash the kernel or analyze a production dump.
