Keeping Unready Pods Away from Visitors Project

Keep real museum search usable while Kubernetes replicas load their indexes; apply business readiness, startup budgets and a complete slower update.

Introduction

Keeping Unready Pods Away from Visitors is a practical Kubernetes project for learners who already understand container images and running containers. Keep Meridian Museum's search usable while new replicas build a real collection index, then complete a slower update without removing every available replica.

One Guided Lab introduces the minimum Pod, Deployment and Service concepts, then connects business readiness, startup allowance and visitor results. One independent Challenge applies the same methods to a slower collection with a different health path. Each environment starts independently with a prepared cluster, cached application image and complete museum website.

What You Will Learn

After completing this course, you will be able to:

  • distinguish a running HTTP process from a usable collection search;
  • add a readiness probe that keeps loading Pods out of real Service traffic;
  • diagnose an undersized startup allowance from import logs, probe events and restarts;
  • calculate a startup budget for a paced import and apply a focused YAML patch;
  • follow a rolling update through current Pods, ready Service endpoints and correct searches;
  • preserve object details, illustrations, visit information and a downloadable collection list.

Who This Course Is For

This course is for DevOps learners who want to connect Kubernetes probes with an application outcome they can use and inspect.

Prerequisites: Basic terminal use and familiarity with container images and running containers. Kubernetes objects, YAML patches, HTTP health contracts and relevant command options are explained in the Guided Lab. No application coding is required.

Learning environment: LabEx provides a browser terminal, a single-node Kubernetes cluster, a cached museum image and the Museum website. You do not install the main stack or create an external account. Course documents support English plus eight translations; the website, commands and interface labels remain English.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior Kubernetes experience?

No. The course introduces the small Pod, Deployment and Service bridge needed for these tasks. Familiarity with containers is required so the project can stay focused on traffic readiness and startup.

Does this build a production high-availability system?

No. The project uses one training node. You observe existing ready replicas serving requests during an update and verify that the new revision converges. It does not promise zero failed requests, automatic rollback or resilience to losing the node.

How does the Challenge extend the Guided Lab?

The maritime collection has a longer record import and its own business readiness path. You choose a suitable startup allowance and reuse the taught patch and Service checks while retaining the complete visitor experience.
