Build a document service that stores bytes privately and delivers the intended content to the right reader. Learn R2 storage operations, protected delivery and deliberate cleanup through small application tasks.
The course contains eight guided labs and one independent private-download repair challenge. Each lab connects object storage behavior to actual bytes, metadata or HTTP responses.
What You Will Learn
- Organize objects with keys and metadata
- Stream documents through a Worker
- Use HTTP validators and byte ranges for downloads
- Issue scoped temporary file links
- Configure and test browser uploads
- Complete and abort multipart uploads
- Apply lifecycle rules for temporary exports
- Close an unintended public download
- Repair private export access without weakening its boundary
Who This Course Is For
Workers developers who need private application file storage and want to test real download and upload behavior.
Prerequisites: Complete Connect LabEx to Your Cloudflare Account and Workers request handling, bindings and secrets. Your own learning account needs an active R2 subscription. Review R2 setup and pricing before beginning.
Learning environment: Every lab uses a fresh LabEx VM, new authorization and uniquely named resources. Use only synthetic files and protect credentials. No purchased domain is required; cleanup includes explicit object/bucket deletion and credential revocation.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is R2 activated automatically on a Free account?
No. Workers Free and R2 activation are separate. Confirm that your learning account has an active R2 subscription before launching the storage exercises.
Can these exercises generate charges?
Small Standard-storage exercises can fit included allowances, but usage is shared across the account and charges can apply. Review the linked setup and pricing information and keep the exercises bounded.
Will the retention lab wait days for deletion?
No. It verifies the applied rule and current metadata, then explicitly removes fixtures during the session. Configuring a rule does not establish that a future deletion or transition has occurred.
Can I keep using the same bucket between labs?
Each exercise starts independently. Carry forward knowledge, not resources or credentials. Verify only owned cleanup while authorization is valid, then revoke the disposable credential and log out.
