Build a practical foundation in Amazon S3 by storing, organizing, publishing, protecting and recovering application files with the AWS CLI. Small reporting scenarios help you connect storage operations with observable results.
The course pairs six guided labs with one independent recovery challenge. It introduces buckets and object keys before adding prefixes, metadata, synchronization, version history, temporary links and lifecycle rules.
What You Will Learn
- Create a bucket, upload and update a report, download it and compare its bytes
- Organize documents with keys, prefixes, content types and metadata
- Publish a directory with sync and scope mirror deletion to the intended prefix
- Recover overwritten reports with version IDs and restore access after a delete marker
- Share a private report with a temporary link and test permissions, signatures and expiration
- Configure a scoped lifecycle policy and distinguish stored rules from scheduled actions
- Recover a missing approved report while preserving history and other documents
Who This Course Is For
This course is for cloud beginners and application developers who want a practical file-storage workflow before studying IAM or serverless applications.
Prerequisites: Complete Get Started with AWS on LabEx, the required preparation lab in AWS Foundations for Beginners, then follow the Foundations learning path. Basic familiarity with entering terminal commands is sufficient; service concepts and shell syntax are explained near their first use.
Learning environment: All activities run in a provided browser-based LabEx Linux environment. Use Terminal for AWS CLI commands and AWS View, next to Terminal, to inspect the same resource and application state. Tools and the connection are prepared; you do not need a personal AWS account or access keys. Each lab starts independently in a fresh VM.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a bucket and an object key?
A bucket holds objects. A key names one object inside that bucket; prefixes help organize related keys. You practice these concepts with small documents and reports.
When should I attempt the challenge?
Follow the six guided labs in the recommended order. The recovery challenge draws on the first four; temporary sharing and lifecycle rules add complementary operating skills.
Will I wait for lifecycle rules to delete files?
No. You verify the stored rule and its scope. This exercise does not claim that future scheduled deletion or storage transitions have already occurred; you explicitly clean up your lab resources.
How are results checked?
Inspect stored data, transferred bytes and actual requests in Terminal and AWS View. No screenshot submission is required. Finish by verifying cleanup of only the resources you created.
Is this a complete certification course?
No. It teaches introductory cloud storage through practice. Account security, service selection, pricing and wider architecture belong to the surrounding learning path.
