Repairing a Broken HTTPS Deployment

Diagnose and repair hostname and certificate chain failures in real Nginx sites, then restore a partner portal while preserving normal service.

Introduction

Repairing a Broken HTTPS Deployment is a practical course for learners with basic terminal familiarity. A help site is online, but clients reject its identity. Repair that deployment in one four-step Guided Lab, then restore a different partner portal independently in one Challenge.

What You Will Learn

  • distinguish encrypted traffic from a verified server identity;
  • inspect live certificate names, issuers and validity with curl and OpenSSL;
  • assemble a leaf/intermediate chain and select its matching private key;
  • test and reload Nginx while preserving a neighboring site's normal service.

Who This Course Is For

This course suits beginning developers, support staff and security learners who can enter terminal commands and recognize paths. No prior PKI, DNS administration or OpenSSL knowledge is required.

The prepared browser-based Linux environment provides Client and Server terminals and an optional HTTPS Monitor. All certificates and names are synthetic training materials; the Nginx and TLS behavior are real.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install anything? No. Each unit starts in an independent prepared environment.

Will I obtain a public certificate? No. You use a supplied training CA to learn identity and chain repair without external issuance or changing the system trust store.

What does the Challenge assess? You apply the taught inspection, selection and reload methods to another hostname. Checks validate real TLS and content for both the portal and its working neighbor, without reports or screenshots.
