Giving a Booking App Its Own Staging Environment Project

Create an independent trial booking environment, test real capacity and guest lists, and preserve the live workshop through preview replacement.

Introduction

Giving a Booking App Its Own Staging Environment is a short DevOps project for learners who can use a terminal and want to make safe changes around a running application. STILL STUDIO needs a trial venue without consuming places in its live workshop.

One Guided Lab teaches configuration, Docker Compose and separate data targets through real reservations. One independent Challenge applies those methods to a smaller second venue with an existing preview reservation. Each unit starts with its own prepared environment.

What You Will Learn

  • configure two instances of the same supplied application image;
  • connect environment-file values to actual running settings, ports and data volumes;
  • keep staging reservations separate from live guests;
  • test venue, remaining places and capacity through the real booking journey;
  • replace a preview container while preserving both environments' reservations.

Who This Course Is For

This course is for beginning DevOps learners and developers who want a practical introduction to staging environments.

Prerequisites: Basic terminal familiarity. Docker, Compose, YAML, environment configuration, paths, ports and HTTP are explained when first used. You do not need to write application code or SQL.

Learning environment: A prepared Linux terminal and two browser tabs, Live Bookings and Preview Bookings. Docker, Compose and the booking application are supplied. The preview becomes available when you start it. All guests and venues are fictional.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to install Docker or register an account elsewhere?

No. The browser environment provides the tools and application. No payment, email or external service is involved.

What makes this more than changing a staging label?

You make real reservations, compare separate guest lists, test a smaller capacity, and confirm data survives preview replacement while the live workshop remains available.

Are the application and website translated?

The course and lab documents support eight additional languages. Website labels, commands and outputs stay in English so they match the prepared environment.

Is this a production platform?

It is a single-instance training system with two containers and separate data volumes. It teaches configuration and data isolation, not a hardened multi-user hosting platform.
