Getting a Pop-Up Event Network Ready is a hands-on project for terminal beginners who want to connect real network clients. Prepare Maple Yard's temporary guest devices, keep its check-in device at a known address, and use the received gateway and DNS settings to reach the event's programme and desk resources.
Two Guided Labs introduce the work in small stages. An independent Challenge changes the address plan and device relationships for a repair café, using the same tools and mechanisms.
What You Will Learn
- Choose a DHCP pool that leaves infrastructure and fixed devices outside it.
- Obtain distinct real client leases and interpret the key DHCP messages.
- Match a device identity to a reserved address.
- Correct gateway and DNS options at the server and make clients receive them.
- Release and obtain a reserved lease again, then verify complete business resources while preserving an existing reference desk.
Who This Course Is For
This course is for networking beginners and learners who want to turn basic terminal use into a working small-network result.
Prerequisites: You can enter terminal commands, recognize paths and switch named tabs. The course explains its network concepts, command options and file-writing syntax before use. No programming, Docker or previous DHCP administration is required.
Learning environment: Prepared Linux network nodes, DHCP/DNS services, client tools, event resources and a live Network Map. Each unit starts independently. The nodes share one kernel; they are not separate physical computers. Website labels, synthetic data and command output remain English; localized documents explain them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install software or use my home router?
No. The provided environment contains the required tools and isolated network. You work only on the course's devices and configuration.
Is a configuration file enough to complete the project?
No. Real clients must receive and apply their leases, use the required services and preserve the reference desk. The check-in device must also complete a genuine release and new acquisition.
Does this cover Wi-Fi or a production DHCP deployment?
The project uses a local wired virtual network. It does not configure radio settings, DHCP relay, failover or reboot persistence. Unit durations are author estimates rather than measured beginner completion times.
