Creating Branch Previews

Give two Git branches their own Jenkins previews, then update one plan while preserving its neighbor and the official program.

Introduction

Creating Branch Previews is a practical Jenkins project for learners who want to turn separate source branches into separate, usable results. Help Cedar & Common compare two neighborhood programs without letting one successful build overwrite the other preview.

One Guided Lab teaches branch discovery, the source behind each Jenkinsfile and branch-aware publication. One independent Challenge applies the same workflow to two workshop plans, followed by a change to just one workshop.

What You Will Learn

  • Discover branch jobs in a native Multibranch Pipeline and connect each build to its checked-out Git revision.
  • Replace a shared preview destination with Jenkins' branch identity, then commit, push and scan the source changes.
  • Inspect complete pages, route images, CSV files, visitor notes and original Jenkins ZIP artifacts.
  • Publish a later meeting-time change without rebuilding the unchanged neighboring branch or damaging the official program.

Who This Course Is For

This course suits Jenkins beginners who can enter terminal commands, recognize file paths, navigate Jenkins build pages and recognize a short Declarative Pipeline. Git branches, commits, pushes and the new Pipeline settings are explained in the Guided Lab.

The browser environment includes Jenkins, the source working copy, a complete builder and publisher, and the Preview Desk. You do not need a local installation or an external Git account.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to write a website or Java program?

No. The application and builder are supplied. You edit a small Pipeline setting and one meeting-time value.

Is a green build enough to finish?

No. Both previews must coexist with correct files and source identities. Downloaded archives must also work independently as local pages.

Does the Challenge reuse the Guided Lab's files?

No. It starts in its own prepared environment with different workshop branches. Use the methods you practiced to separate the previews and update only the requested workshop.

Is this a hosted deployment platform?

The Git source and preview service run locally in the training environment. This project teaches the real Jenkins and Git workflow without requiring GitHub, webhooks or a public hosting account.
