Continuing a Mapping Job from Another Terminal is a practical Linux project for learners who already know how to enter terminal commands. Help a community trail desk finish real SVG route collections by returning to an interactive mapper from another browser terminal.
One Guided Lab introduces tmux sessions and clients through a single mapping job. One independent Challenge asks you to finish two existing jobs with different batch and accessibility choices while preserving a reference session. The documents are available in English and eight additional languages; terminal prompts, synthetic data and map labels remain English.
What You Will Learn
- Create a named tmux session and recognize the platform terminal's existing session.
- Detach a client and reconnect from another terminal to the same live process.
- Distinguish input to a mapper from commands entered at a shell prompt.
- Select the right existing task and requested batch and route mode.
- Use actual SVG maps and their index while preserving original work and reference sessions.
Who This Course Is For
This course is for Linux learners who want to keep interactive terminal work available when changing terminal connections.
Prerequisites: Basic terminal familiarity. No Python programming, GIS, SSH configuration or tmux experience is required. Commands and session concepts are introduced before use.
Learning environment: A prepared Linux environment provides Terminal A, Terminal B and Maps in your browser. The route network is synthetic and does not provide real navigation directions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to install Linux or a mapping program?
No. The terminals, mapper and map viewer are ready in the lab environment.
Does this recover a job after a VM reboot?
No. The same tmux server and VM must remain alive. You practice deliberate detach and reconnect; this is not checkpoint recovery, automatic retries or a claim about physical machine changes.
What will I hand over?
Complete route collections containing original and new SVG maps plus exact indexes. The Challenge changes which task needs which batch and mode, rather than asking you to replay the guided job.
