Course in AWS Skill Tree

AWS RDS for Beginners

Connect an order application to PostgreSQL and practice instance creation, SQL, access controls, snapshot recovery and read replicas.

AWS

Introduction

Connect an order application to PostgreSQL and learn to manage the database behind it. Create a private RDS instance, store customer orders, restrict access, recover deleted data and send read requests to a replica. Five guided labs introduce the skills before an independent troubleshooting challenge.

What You Will Learn

  • Create a PostgreSQL instance and connect an application to its endpoint.
  • Define an order table, insert records and query stored data with SQL.
  • Restrict network access and give an application a limited database user.
  • Capture a manual snapshot, restore a separate instance and recover the application.
  • Separate primary writes from replica reads and observe replication and read-only behavior.
  • Diagnose a wrong application connection and preserve unrelated data during repair and cleanup.

Who This Course Is For

This course is for beginners who understand basic AWS CLI queries and the VPC, subnet and security-group concepts from AWS VPC for Beginners. Familiarity with application connections from AWS EC2 and EBS for Beginners is helpful. SQL and PostgreSQL concepts are explained when first used.

Each unit starts independently in a browser-based Linux environment with Terminal, AWS View and a prepared order application. Database clients and connection settings are supplied. You do not need to bring personal AWS credentials. Follow the stated resource scope and test results before cleanup.

FAQ

Do I need previous PostgreSQL experience? No. The guided labs introduce the required SQL statements, connection settings and database permissions through a small order application.

Can this support AWS certification preparation? Yes. The labs include directly relevant Cloud Practitioner and Solutions Architect – Associate topics, including relational databases, access controls, backup recovery and read replicas. Use the course alongside your exam guide; it does not cover a complete exam syllabus.

Are a read replica and a Multi-AZ standby interchangeable? No. This course uses a read replica for read requests. A standard Multi-AZ DB instance standby serves availability and failover; it is not an application read endpoint.
