Introduction

AWS Containers for Beginners

Deliver a small HTTP application as a container image, run it with an ECS task definition, keep a service available, and restore a previous release when an update fails. Each lab uses a fresh independent environment with configured AWS CLI access and an AWS View that follows the resources you create.

Start by building the supplied application with Docker and publishing an immutable release to ECR. Pull the image by digest and test its actual HTTP response. Then use ECS and Fargate task settings to select an image, an execution role, networking and logs. Move from a single task to a service behind an Application Load Balancer, observe target health and replace a stopped task.

Separate the execution role's image, logging and secret permissions from the task role's application permissions. Inject one secret and let the application read one authorized S3 object, checking that unrelated reads are denied. Finally, register task definitions for supplied releases, update the service revision, inspect a failed release and manually restore the previously tested revision. The independent challenge asks you to diagnose why a new container task never becomes healthy using the inspection tools and health checks you have practiced.

Complete AWS Foundations and IAM first. Before the service and configuration labs, review VPC, Load Balancing, Application Security and Monitoring concepts. Docker basics are explained in the first lab. Supplied application code, Dockerfiles, network, ALB and basic roles keep the work focused on container delivery; you do not need to build an unrelated UI or reuse resources from a previous VM.

The course teaches one ECS/Fargate route, immutable image references, service health, scoped roles and manual rollback. Kubernetes, advanced CI/CD, blue/green deployments and production performance tuning are outside its scope. Run the labs in order, then complete the challenge independently. Clean up the resources you create in every unit while preserving the supplied reference resources.
